    You probably noticed that the newsletter was on vacation last week. Here in CT we sustained serious damage from Hurricane Irene. We were out of power, cable, and Internet for 7 days. So happy to be back on the grid! We even wrote a little article about our experience: Irene: When I Lost It!.
     
    The biggest surprise we've had in awhile came when we finished compiling our list of the worst retirement states for taxes. We smugly assumed that the northeast would take top honors - turns out the west and midwest walked away with it.  Taxation of pensions and social security had everything to do with it.

    We'll confess that Chatham, located on Cape Cod's outer elbow, is a personal favorite. It has a beautiful downtown with interesting shops, tasty restaurants, and a fabulous library. There are beautiful homes and big beaches too.
