Here in CT we sustained serious damage from Hurricane Irene. We were out of power, cable, and Internet for 7 days. So happy to be back on the grid! The biggest surprise we've had in awhile came when we finished compiling our list of the worst retirement states for taxes. We smugly assumed that the northeast would take top honors - turns out the west and midwest walked away with it. Taxation of pensions and social security had everything to do with it. It has a beautiful downtown with interesting shops, tasty restaurants, and a fabulous library. There are beautiful homes and big beaches too.
